This is the kind of atmosphere I deal with at the middle school where I work: While we were waiting by the front door to go in this morning (we're on work-to-rule), the special ed department chair asked how I was doing. I said "Oh, 90 percent," because I still had a little soreness from my kidney stone ordeal last week. She replied, "Yeah, we're all at about that level this time of year." That made it obvious to me that she didn't even know I was gone last week, and nobody else asked me how I was, or where I had been (I missed five days of work!). I am a non-entity at that school.
